  • October 10 is a Make Up Day

The Richmond County School System made a decision to close school on Friday, September 2nd in consideration of the safety of all students & staff and as a result of the Governor’s Declaration of a State of Emergency for Hurricane Hermine.

Instructional days are vitally important to the success of our students.  As a result, the Richmond County School System will use Monday, October 10th as a make-up day.  If you have any questions, please call the Central Office at (706) 826-1000.

  • September is Attendance Awareness Month!

    • Attendance matters for doing well in school and life – establishing a culture of attendance has to start as early as kindergarten and even in pre-kindergarten and continue throughout high school.

    • People tend to grow concerned only about students who miss consecutive days of school, but single-day absences can be just as disruptive as they can add up before you know it – just one or two days a month can add up to nearly 10 percent of the school year.

    • Poor attendance is not just about unexcused absences or children willfully skipping school – excused absences can affect performance, too. Missing school means missed instructional opportunities.

    • Teachers and fellow students care and miss your child when they are not in school.

    • Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and about themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.
